¿Acaso ustedes no memorizan un poco de poesía para parar la masacre? interpeló el “indio” al “hombre blanco”. Este libro surge como un escudo poético para detener esa masacre. Las comillas irrumpieron en la traducción del poema del árabe al castellano ofreciéndose como munición poética para hacer frente a la muerte. No obstante, en el epígrafe, que cita la famosa carta del jefe Seattle, asevera que no hay muerte, sino un cambio de mundos.

La historia de este libro comienza con el hallazgo de un manuscrito inédito en el Archivo Histórico Nacional. Entre los papeles del general Vicente Rojo aparece una Historia de la guerra de España en la que el autor estuvo trabajando en sus largos años de exilio y que quedó inconclusa. Jorge Martínez Reverte, con la ayuda de José Andrés Rojo, ha rescatado esta crónica de la Guerra Civil escrita por quien fue uno de sus protagonistas más destacados desde el punto de vista militar.
