El propósito de Nautilus 1 es proveer a los cadetes y grumetes de instituciones de enseñanza náutica o naval, un método y a la vez una ayuda sencilla y efectiva en el aprendizaje autodidáctico de las terminologías y frases usualmente usadas a bordo, tanto en español como en inglés, pero con mayor énfasis en iInglés; dado que es el idioma usado internacionalmente para ejecutar todo lo relacionado a la actividad marítima. Nautilus 1 no es un diccionario como tampoco un curso de inglés, donde la meta principal es que los lectores aprendan y pronuncien bien los términos y de tal forma evitar el problema de la mala comunicación a bordo.
