Este libro contiene la utopía de don Vasco -una utopía de convivencia- y sigue las vicisitudes del gobierno indio español de la "ciudad de Mechuacan" que fundó el obispo, primero en Tzintzuntzan y despúes en Pátzcuaro.

A pesar del evidente impacto de la guerra sobre una sociedad son muy pocos los trabajos, con metodologí­a moderna, que se han dedicado a la forma de combatir en la Edad Media. Esta pionera obra se centra en la arqueologí­a del combate, es decir, sobre cómo y con qué medios se combatí­a en la Edad Media, cómo se reflejaba y sus resultados. La forma de combatir presenta unos condicionantes universales, los biomecánicos, y otros propios de la época y la cultura, los tecnológicos y sociales. En ese sentido, esta obra es innovadora en el ámbito académico europeo, y pionera en España.
