This book is designed as a second- or third-year college text that presents the civilization of Spain in all its manifestations: history, literature, the arts, and popular culture. In this revision, all important cultural and historical information from previous editions has been retained, and new information about modern-day political organizations and culture has been added. With increased emphasis on the regional diversity of Spain and improved coverage of the contributions of women, this text introduces students to Spanish civilizations and culture.

Based upon a 1995 earlier work with the same title, it provides a succinct panorma of the diversity of the Automous Regions of Spain as constituent parts of today's Spain.
